How to Grow
Start Nicotiana 'Lime Green' seeds indoors in early spring, ideally between March and June, to give them a warm environment for germination. This annual thrives in sunny spots with well-drained soil, making it perfect for balconies, containers, or garden beds.
Sowing
Sow the seeds under cover in mid-spring without covering them, as light aids germination. You can also sow directly outdoors in early May once the risk of frost has passed.
Growing
When transplanting seedlings outdoors after the last frost, space them to accommodate their mature height of 1.5 metres and spread of 0.6 metres, or plant in containers at least 30 cm wide. Firm the soil around the rootball and water well to help establish strong, fragrant growth.
Plant care
Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells or when grown in containers, watering often to support healthy development. Stake taller stems to prevent flopping and deadhead regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the growing season from June to October. Feed the plants every two weeks and, in milder UK areas, cut back in autumn and mulch to protect the crown for potential overwintering and spring regrowth.
