How to Grow
Start Teddy Bear sunflower seeds indoors in pots from March to June or sow them outdoors after the last frost in a sunny spot. These dwarf sunflowers thrive in well-drained, fertile soil or peat-free compost in containers, making them ideal for balconies and small gardens.
Sowing
Sow 1–2 seeds per hole in damp, well-drained soil and cover lightly. Keep the soil warm and place the seeds in a sunny position to encourage good germination.
Growing
Thin seedlings to about 30cm apart to allow each plant enough room to develop its characteristic fluffy pom-pom flower head. With a typical height of up to 1 meter and a spread of 0.5 meters, they suit 40cm pots and small garden beds well.
Plant care
Water Teddy Bear sunflowers regularly, especially during dry spells, and feed lightly every couple of weeks from June to September to support strong stems and prolonged blooming. To save seeds, allow flower heads to fade and turn yellow, then cover with a breathable bag or cut and dry them indoors before storing the seeds for next year.
